Bounding the Mean Cumulated Reward up to Absorption

چکیده
Markov models are the most used tools when analyzing complex systems from the performance, dependability or performability points of view. They can capture most of the important aspects of the systems, at the price however of a possible combinatorial explosion in the number of states of the models. In such a case, the many available numerical methods are often of no use, and one of the possible answers to the problem is to design methods that are able to provide bounds of the needed metrics, at moderate costs. This paper proposes such a method when the model is an absorbing Markov process. The method is designed to be accurate in the case of models of highly reliable systems, and can handle the case of models with rewards. The paper illustrates its properties with different numerical examples.

متن کاملAutomatic Bounding Estimation in Modified Nlms Algorithm
Modified Normalized Least Mean Square (MNLMS) algorithm, which is a sign form of NLMS based on set-membership (SM) theory in the class of optimal bounding ellipsoid (OBE) algorithms, requires a priori knowledge of error bounds that is unknown in most applications. In a special but popular case of measurement noise, a simple algorithm has been proposed. With some simulation examples the performa...

متن کاملOn Passive Quadrupedal Bounding with Flexible Linear Torso
This paper studies the effect of flexible linear torso on the dynamics of passive quadruped bounding. A reduced-order passive and conservative model with linear flexible torso and springy legs is introduced. The model features extensive spine deformation during high-speed bounding, resembling those observed in a cheetah. Fixed points corresponding to cyclic bounding motions are found and calcul...
